Clarendon County School District Enhances Safety with New Metal Detectors

Clarendon County School District set to begin the use of OPENGATE Metal Detectors

Manning— October 17, 2024 — In a continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff, the Clarendon County School District is pleased to announce the implementation of metal detectors at all district campuses. This initiative is a significant component of the district’s comprehensive safety plan.

Superintendent Dr. Shawn Johnson stated, "The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. By integrating metal detectors into our security measures, we aim to provide a secure learning environment where everyone feels protected."

“Our ability in implementing this plan lies in the ability for all school partners to work together,” stated Dr. Jacqueline Inabinette, Director of Safety and Special Projects. “We continue to prioritize student safety to enrich our learning environments, fostering trust, transparency, and collaboration.”

As with any new process, there may be initial challenges. The district is prepared to assist students and parents in adjusting to these changes and is dedicated to mastering the implementation efficiently and effectively. Students will be advised to remove specific items from their bookbags before entering the building and will keep their bookbags on while walking through the detectors.

Dr. Johnson added, "We value open communication and encourage feedback from our school community. Our goal is to address any concerns promptly and ensure a smooth transition."
