Clarendon County School District Celebrates District-Wide Progress and Remarkable Elementary School Achievements in 2023-2024 School Report Card Data

CCSD Schools Remain On The Road Towards Excellence With All Schools Average Or Better

Manning— October 15, 2024 – The Clarendon County School District (CCSD) is delighted to announce significant progress across all levels, from elementary to high school, as reflected in the recently released 2023-2024 South Carolina School Report Card data.  The district celebrates the positive impact of implemented interventions and instructional strategies, resulting in district-wide academic improvements.

“This year's report card is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our students, teachers, administrators, and support staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Shawn Johnson.  “These results showcase our strategic initiatives' effectiveness and collaborative efforts' power.  We are incredibly proud of the progress made at all levels and remain steadfast in our dedication to providing every child in Clarendon County with a high-quality education.”

Significant Achievements Across All Levels

The positive impacts of targeted interventions and instructional strategies are evident in several key areas:

Exceptional Elementary School Achievements

Elevated Overall Ratings:

  • Dr. Rose Wilder Elementary School:  Achieved an "Excellent" rating, a significant jump from its "Average" rating in 2022.

  • Manning Elementary School: Improved to an "Average" rating.

  • Walker Gamble Elementary School: Earned an "Excellent" rating, exceeding its "Good" rating in 2022 and maintaining its “Excellent” rating from 2023.

“I'm incredibly proud of the collaborative effort that has driven such significant academic gains for our K-5 students in Clarendon County," said Dr. Erica Murdaugh, Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  "The success shown in the 2024 SCDE Report Card is a testament to the dedication of our entire school community. I extend my sincere congratulations to our dedicated administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community members"

Secondary School Progress:

  • Improved Graduation Rates: Manning High School and Scott’s Branch High School saw notable increases in graduation rates, attributable to improved counseling services ensuring that students are scheduled with intent, credit recovery policies, and interventions.

  • Increased EOC Passing Rates: Several schools demonstrated significant increases in End-of-Course exam passing rates, thanks to targeted tutoring, professional development for teachers, and intervention strategies.

  • Enhanced Academic Achievement & Student Progress: The district saw gradual yet important increases in overall academic performance and student progress at the secondary level, a direct result of the district's focus on early literacy intervention, differentiated instruction, data-driven decision-making, and weekly professional learning community gatherings where teachers had the opportunity to share and collaborate to improve teaching methods and increase rigor in the classroom resulting in increased academic success.

  • College and career readiness has improved across the district, with students now better prepared for post-secondary education and the workforce through programs offering both essential skills and industry credentials.

“Our secondary focus is now more heavily centered on instruction and intervention, with an emphasis on preparing students to succeed on standardized assessments. This includes end-of-course exams (EOCs) but also extends to tests such as the ASVAB, WIN, ACT, and PSAT. We want to ensure that we build on our students' strengths from the elementary level, so they continue to grow and succeed academically and beyond,” stated Dr. Tyneshia Eaddy, Director of Secondary Education.
