Walker Gamble Elementary School Awarded $18,000 Distinguished Arts Program Grant
CCSD school receives DAP grant
New Zion, SC— October 24, 2024 – Clarendon County School district is excited to announce that Walker Gamble Elementary School has been awarded an esteemed Distinguished Arts Program Grant in the amount of $18,000 for the 2024-2025 school year. This funding will significantly enhance the school’s already thriving arts program.
The Academic Arts team at Walker Gamble plans to utilize the grant to improve arts technology by implementing Media Arts standards and activities across the existing Technology Lab, STEAM Lab, Visual Arts, and Music classes. Key purchases will include iPads, Apple Pencils, and protective cases to support media arts lessons and digital Design Thinking challenges.
In addition to technology upgrades, the grant will fund new musical instruments, including cajons, along with accompanying method books. Students will also have the opportunity to explore various ceramic techniques with the purchase of glazes and wax resists, enhancing their understanding of surface treatments.
Professional development for arts educators is vital for the success of the Academic Arts Program. A portion of the grant funds will be allocated to send arts teachers to the Summer Arts Institute, as well as to participate in the SCAEA, SCMEA, and PSAE Arts Integration conferences.
“Walker Gamble is a special school that not only shines brightly academically but also artistically. The Academic Arts team works tirelessly to ensure their students receive the highest quality arts education,” said Jessie Welch, District Arts Coordinator.
Principal Allen Kirby expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am so excited for WGE to receive the DAP grant for the 2024-25 school year. The grant brings opportunities in the arts for our students that they normally would not have. It is going to be wonderful to see the positive impact that this has on our school.”
