Manning— October 17, 2024 — The Clarendon County School District is proud to announce that East Clarendon Middle High School's Mrs. Charlotte Driggers and Manning Elementary School's Mrs. Caitlyn Hicks have each been awarded $10,000 Arts Enhancement Program (AEP) grants from the South Carolina Department of Education.
East Clarendon Middle High School:
Mrs. Charlotte Driggers will bring back Artist-in-Residence Robert Doster, offering students a unique opportunity to design and create two stainless steel benches. Under his guidance, students will gain hands-on experience in metalworking, learning techniques such as plasma cutting, sanding, and welding. Collaboration with FE Dubose will provide further experience during bench assembly. Additionally, 35 art and drama students will visit Greenville to see "The Lion King" musical, with grant funds covering transportation. Pottery classes will also benefit from updated materials and equipment.
Manning Elementary School:
Mrs. Caitlyn Hicks plans to develop an arts enhancement program focusing on the artistic gifted and talented audition process and advanced arts learning. The grant will fund vital equipment and materials for instruction, such as drying racks, paints, brushes, student portfolios, aprons, and stoneware clay.
Both teachers will attend the SCAEA annual professional development conference, further enhancing their skills and knowledge.
Jessie Welch, District Arts Coordinator, expressed pride in their achievements: "I am very proud of the work that Mrs. Driggers and Mrs. Hicks put in to receive these arts grants for their schools. Grant writing is a time-consuming process, and I applaud their dedication to increasing artistic opportunities for the children of Clarendon County School District."
